Sheffield Doc/Fest

Sheffield Doc fest

In November 2008, we began a partnership with Sheffield Doc/Fest, bringing the best of BRITDOC to South Yorkshire.

In 2009 the Foundation set up camp in the BRITDOC Bar, playing host to an entertaining program of events including chat shows, pub quizzes, singalongs and parties...

But it wasn’t all fun and games… Foundation Chief Exec Jess Search hosted two panels and spoke on two more. Meanwhile, Foundation Director Beadie Finzi used her panel to unravel the conundrum of trying to make documentary pay the bills. We also had 4 films playing at the festival: Moving to Mars, Erasing David and shorts The Joneses and Shelter in Place.

See you all there in November 2010!

Online

A lot of the best stuff we do at BRITDOC – explosive sessions, new ideas, networking, getting projects in front of funders – can be delivered more cheaply and more effectively online. In 2009 the Foundation launched two new sites. Firstly, the goodfilm.org website for filmmakers to make partnerships with charities and foundations. And secondly a relaunch of the 4Docs website, dedicated to short documentaries.

Good Film4Docs

Good Pitch North America

Beyond the UK, the Foundation and the Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program announced a new partnership in 2009 which saw the innovative documentary pitching forum, the Good Pitch, mounted at Hot Docs Festival in Toronto, Silverdocs: AFI/Discovery Channel Documentary Festival in Washington D.C. and IFP’s Independent Film Week in New York City. Details of the Good Pitch tour 2010 will be announced shortly.

Films for Good Workshop

Films For Good Workshop

The Channel 4 BRITDOC Foundation and Working Films have designed a weekend workshop in London to create effective strategic outreach campaigns for your films. Working Film co-founders, Robert West and Judith Helfand have masterminded campaigns behind feature documentaries such as the Emmy Award winning The Ghosts of Abu Ghraib resulting in significant shifts in the marketplace, public and political opinion in the US. Their new full-time partnership with Channel 4 BRITDOC Foundation – of which the Films for Good Weekend is the first project - will help to bring this high-level expertise to the UK filmmaking community. The call for entries for this years Films for Good Workshop will be announced shortly.

BRITDOC Film Festival
2006 - 2008

From 2006-2008 the Channel 4 BRITDOC Foundation ran the fantastic BRITDOC Film Festival. BRITDOC 08 was the best yet, welcoming 800 delegates over 3 sunny days. We ran 3 pitching forums, featured 300 online projects and welcomed a veritable Who’s Who of international documentary. We loved Oxford but needed to make more time and energy for new projects like the Good Pitch on tour.
