Channel 4 and Us

The Foundation is an independent, non-profit organisation.

Channel 4 has been our founding partner and our inspiration from day one. We share the same belief in the importance of public service content to British culture and society. We also share a modern and innovative approach to problem solving.

We were delighted that in November 2011 Channel 4 announced they were renewing their partnership with us, and increased our funding. That means we are able to make more and better films, that will be seen all around the world, and on Channel 4 here in the UK.

The Channel has an option to broadcast any of the Foundation funded films from our UK production fund that can work for their audiences. They view the films once completed and through this mechanism many of our films have been shown on Channel 4 or More4.

With Channel 4’s help we are continuing to seed a vibrant independent documentary community from where our future theatrical, TV and online documentary stars will emerge.

"Documentary filmmaking has always been at the heart of what we do at Channel 4, helping us challenge the way we see the world and ourselves and on occasion even transforming the way we live our lives.

At Channel 4 we are delighted to be the founding sponsor of the BRITDOC Foundation. Our commitment is to helping create a space where untried filmmakers or passionate auteurs with something important to say can bring their work and have it nurtured and supported, both with money and expertise.

The Foundation's success so far is testament to the public appetite for award-winning films with something important to say, from Black Gold to Afghan Star, Chosen to The End of the Line, and we look forward to continuing our support for its work."
