Synopsis

Using contemporary footage and archived out-takes of Haskell Wexler’s 1969 feature Medium Cool, Sooner or Later takes a lyrical look at the life of the star of Wexler’s film, Harold Blankenship, and his family in West Virginia.

Paul Cronin’s films include “Look out Haskell, it’s real!” The Making of Medium Cool (2001) , Film as a Subversive Art: Amos Vogel and Cinema 16 (2003) and In the Beginning was the Image: Conversations with Peter Whitehead (2006).  He is the editor of several volumes, including an interview book with Werner Herzog and On Film-making: An Introduction to the craft of the director, the collected writings of British director Alexander Mackendrick. Paul is currently working on books about production sound recording and Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami, as well as the historical documentary A Time to Stir
