Synopsis
EL POETA is an intimate portrait of renowned Mexican poet Javier Sicilia who, in the wake of his 24-year-old son’s brutal murder last year, ignited a mass movement against the horrific Mexican drug war. EL POETA traces Sicilia’s path from poet/philosopher and father to national symbol of protest, grief and redemption.

About the director
Katie Galloway and Kelly Duane de la Vega, winners of the 2012 Writers Guild of America award for best documentary screenplay and 2011 Gotham Independent Film Best Documentary Award, have directed and produced theatrically released and nationally broadcast documentaries and series for POV, Frontline, IFC, the Discovery Channel and others.
