Good Pitch

A pioneering, inspiring and collaborative weekend workshop, designed to help the most ambitious documentary filmmaking teams to create bespoke campaigns around their social impact films.

23rd-25th July 2010 sees the third annual Films for Good Workshop roll into town.

Applications have now closed for this workshop. Please check back here for the results of project selection.

Follow in the footsteps of hard hitting and powerful films and previous workshop alumni - Sundance and Berlin Winner Wasteland, the Inconvenient Truth of the seas End of the Line and cinema hit and surveillance sensation Erasing David.

The main strength of Films for Good was the wide range of in-depth sessions, covering everything from how to fund a campaign to how to self-distribute your project. The notes the team took at the weekend were passed around the entire team and are still referred to now (six months into the campaign). Eleanor Dean, Outreach Co-ordinator, Moving to Mars

Join this inspiring and informative weekend workshop designed to create campaigns and identify a range of potential outreach partners - including leading non-profits and social entrepreneurs as well as corporate and branding agencies.

The Channel 4 BRITDOC Foundation and Working Films designed this workshop to create effective strategic outreach campaigns around documentary films. Working Film co-founders Robert West and Judith Helfand and their team have masterminded campaigns behind feature docs such as Rory Kennedy's Emmy Award-winning The Ghosts of Abu Ghraib and Helfland's Everything's Cool resulting in significant shifts in the marketplace, public and political opinion in the US. Working Films' new full-time partnership with Channel 4 BRITDOC Foundation brings this high-level expertise to the UK filmmaking community.

The aim of the workshop is to help you:

• Develop audience and community engagement strategies

• Identify potential strategic partners i.e. charities, NGOs and brands

• Form an outreach strategy specific to your film

• Leverage and extend the life of your film

• Make social networking work for you

Each project will leave the Workshop with an outline of activities and proposed partners appropriate for pre-release, release and post-release to give your film a long and effective life.

HOW TO APPLY

• The call for the 2010 Films for Good workshop will open on Monday 17 May.

• Deadline for applications Monday 28th June.

• All filmmaker and producer teams in the UK making films around social issues are encouraged to apply for the weekend workshop.

• Priority will be given to films at rough cut stage but we will also include one or two at different stages of production, though some rushes must be available on ALL submissions.

• All attendees (maximum of 3 per project) must be available to attend the full workshop - 6-10pm Friday 23rd July and 10am-6pm Saturday and Sunday 24th and 25th July.

• Of the films submitted (the last two years’ weekends were attended by award-winning filmmakers and new talent alike) we will shortlist a maximum of 10 filmmaking teams for places on this year’s course.

• Films that already have commercial or third sector partners involved will be of key interest and those partners will also be invited to join in the brainstorming sessions.

• Filmmakers will be required to pay £25 per project to apply to the Films for Good workshop. This goes towards covering some of the costs of administering the application process.

• Filmmakers will be able to apply for both the Films for Good workshop and the Good Pitch UK on the same application, under the same fee.
